This Week in the Senate: 3/29/2021

This week, the Senate is out of session, with senators back in their home-states for a work period.  Pro forma  sessions (to prevent recess appointments) will be held on March 29th and April 1st. Next week, the Senate will remain in recess.

This week, the Senate is holding votes on some executive branch nominations. Floor Action:¹ Monday: The Senate will vote at 5:30 pm to confirm the nomination of Mayor of Boston Marty Walsh to be Secretary of Labor. Tuesday: The Senate will vote to invoke cloture on (and confirm) the nomination of Shalanda Young to be Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget. The Senate will also vote to invoke cloture on the nomination of Vivek Murthy to be Surgeon General. Wednesday: The Senate will vote to confirm Murthy and will vote to invoke cloture on (and confirm) the nomination of Rachel Levin to be Assistant Secretary of Health. The Senate will also vote to invoke cloture on the nomination of David Turk to be Deputy Secretary of Energy. Floor Action:¹ Monday: The Senate will vote at 5:30 pm to confirm Connecticut Education Commissioner Miguel Cardona to be Secretary of Education and will vote to invoke cloture on the nomination of Governor of Rhode Island Gina Raimondo to be Secretary of Commerce. Tuesday: The Senate will vote to confirm Raimondo and will vote to invoke cloture on (and confirm) the nomination of Dean of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs Cecilia Rouse to be Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors.
