This Week in the Senate: 10/19/2020

This week, the Senate is holding votes on three bills and two nominations to the judiciary, and the Judiciary Committee will convene  an executive business meeting . Floor Action:¹ Monday: The Senate will vote at 5:30 pm on the motion to proceed to H.J. Res. 90 , a Congressional Review Act joint resolution disapproving of the rule submitted by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency relating to "Community Reinvestment Act Regulations". Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will also offer a motion to adjourn the Senate until after the election. Tuesday: The Senate will vote to reauthorize the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). This vote is expected to fail. Wednesday: The Senate will vote on a Republican-proposed stimulus package that is also not expected to pass. This Week in the Senate: 10/12/2020

This week, the Senate is out of session, with most senators back in their home-states due to COVID-19.  Pro forma  sessions (to prevent recess appointments) will be held on October 13th and October 16th. Next week, the Senate will return to the capital. On Monday through Thursday, the Judiciary Committee will hold a  nominations hearing  for the following nominee: Supreme Court of the United States: Amy Coney Barrett, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States On Monday , members of the Judiciary Committee will deliver opening statements, and after being introduced by Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun and Notre Dame Law School Professor Emerita Patricia O'Hara, Judge Barrett will deliver her opening statement. On Tuesday and Wednesday , members of the Committee will question Judge Barrett on any number of topics, including, but not limited to, her jurisprudence.
