This Week in the Senate: 10/19/2020
This week, the Senate is holding votes on three bills and two nominations to the judiciary, and the Judiciary Committee will convene an executive business meeting.

Monday:
Monday:
- The Senate will vote at 5:30 pm on the motion to proceed to H.J. Res. 90, a Congressional Review Act joint resolution disapproving of the rule submitted by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency relating to "Community Reinvestment Act Regulations". Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will also offer a motion to adjourn the Senate until after the election.
Tuesday:
- The Senate will vote to reauthorize the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). This vote is expected to fail.
Wednesday:
- The Senate will vote on a Republican-proposed stimulus package that is also not expected to pass.
Thursday:
- The Senate will vote to invoke cloture on and confirm the nomination of Magistrate Judge Michael Jay Newman to be a District Judge of the Southern District of Ohio, in Dayton. Newman's nomination is relatively noncontroversial, and if confirmed, he would fill a judicial emergency from 2019.
Friday:
- Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will file a motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to be an Associate Justice of the United States.
Saturday:
- The Senate will consider Judge Amy Coney Barrett's nomination to the Supreme Court.
Sunday:
- The Senate will vote at 1:00 pm to invoke cloture on the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
On Thursday, the Judiciary Committee will hold an executive session to vote on and/or hold over the following nominations (the number in the parentheses appearing after the nominee's name signifies whether this is the first or second time appearing on the agenda; first-time appearances are typically held over and nominees appearing for the second time usually receive votes):
- Amy Coney Barrett, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States (2)
- Benjamin Joel Beaton, to be a U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Kentucky (4)
- Kristi Haskins Johnson, to be a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi (4)
- Taylor B. McNeel, to be a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi (4)
- Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, to be a U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Florida (4)
- Thompson Michael Dietz, to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims (4)
