This Week in the Senate: 4/12/2021

This week, the Senate is holding votes on some executive branch nominations and one bill.

Floor Action:¹
Monday:
  • The Senate will vote at 5:30 pm to invoke cloture on the nomination of Polly Trottenberg to be Deputy Secretary of Transportation.
Tuesday:
  • The Senate will vote to confirm Trottenberg and will vote to invoke cloture on (and confirm) the nominations of Wendy Sherman to be Deputy Secretary of State and Gary Gensler to be a Member of the Securities and Exchange Commission (for a term expiring in June 2021). The Senate will also vote to invoke cloture on the nomination of Brenda Mallory to be a Member of the Council on Environmental Quality.
Wednesday:
  • The Senate will vote to confirm Mallory and will vote to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 937, a bill related to responding to COVID-19-related hate crimes.
Thursday:
  • The Senate will vote to discharge the nomination of Vanita Gupta, to be Associate Attorney General, from the Judiciary Committee.
