This Week in the Senate: 6/24/2019

This week, the Senate is holding votes on the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, and the Judiciary Committee will convene a nominations hearing and an executive business meeting.

Floor Action:
Monday:
  • The Senate will vote at 5:30 pm on the Motion to Proceed to S. 1790, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020.
Tuesday:
  • The Senate will vote on various amendments related to the NDAA and might dispose of the bill in its entirety.
Wednesday:
  • The Senate might vote on a border security package, but the schedule has not been set in stone.
Thursday:
  • The schedule has not been published.
On Wednesday, the Judiciary Committee will hold a nominations hearing for the following nominees:

District Court:
  1. Douglas Russell Coleto be a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Ohio
  2. Matthew Walden McFarlandto be a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Ohio
  3. Robert Anthony Molloy, to be a Judge for the District Court of the Virgin Islands
  4. Kea Whetzal Riggs, to be a U.S. District Judge for the District of New Mexico
On Thursday, the Judiciary Committee will hold an executive session to vote on and/or hold over the following nominations (the number in the parentheses appearing after the nominee's name signifies whether this is the first or second time appearing on the agenda; first-time appearances are typically held over and nominees appearing for the second time usually receive votes):

Court of Appeals:
  1. Peter Joseph Phippsto be a U.S. Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit (2)
      District Court / Court of Federal Claims:
      1. Charles R. Eskridge III, to be a U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Texas (2)
      2. William Shaw Stickman IV, to be a U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania (2)
      3. Jennifer Philpott Wilson, to be a U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania (2)
